During the flurry of new luxury store openings in Beijing in April, The DSquared opening party was definitely the most boisterous. The event kicked off with a cocktail reception at the new DSquared flagship store in Beijing’s Sanlitun North Village followed by a wild party at the nearby Orange event space. DSquared designers Dean and Dan Caten both flew in from Milan from the event which was also attended by Chinese actress and singer Fan Bingbing, Hong Kong Singer William So and Chinese fashion blogger Han Huo Huo.
With most luxury industry events being rather somber affairs, it was a pleasure to experience the fun and glamorous side of fashion as designers Dean and Dan Caten ensured their party was rocking! After dancing with DJ Wordy, one of China’s top DJs the designers shared the microphone and incited the crowd into dance. Dean and Dan then choreographed an impromptu fashion show, helped handsome men to take their shirts off and danced and took photos with the guests. In doing this the designers stayed true to the DSquared image of a being a smart, fun and most definitely very sexy brand.
Operated by Joyce Group from Hong Kong the D Squared Beijing Flagship Store covers around 500 sqm. and has a full line of men’s and women’s wear plus accessories. The stores interior design conveys the designers’ Canadian heritage with deer antlers, tree trunks and a nature feel permeating throughout. Although perhaps not quite a ‘luxury’ in the traditional sense, D Square’s price point in China puts them in the upper tiers of designer labels in China and is likely to be a great hit with the young wealthy kids often referred to as fuerdai (rich second generation).
